Lancha navegando pelas Ilhas Cagarras no Rio de Janeiro

Rio seen from the water changes scale. Buildings that looked close shrink against the hillside, and Sugarloaf Mountain appears from an angle the coastline never shows. These are the real routes on offer, from what is included in the standard trip to what has to be arranged separately.

Guanabara Bay and Urca: the standard route

Already included in any trip, at no extra cost. It passes Sugarloaf Mountain seen from below, Christ the Redeemer in the distance, the Rio-Niterói Bridge and Fiscal Island, with a swim stop at Praia Vermelha, where the water stays calm most of the year. This is the right route for a first-time visitor who wants to see the main landmarks from the water.

Sunset in Urca

The same standard trip, with the departure time adjusted to end during sunset. The sky turns orange and pink with Sugarloaf Mountain in silhouette, which makes for the best photos of the day. Timing details are in boat trip at sunset.

Copacabana and Ipanema: arranged separately

Leaves the bay and follows the coastline in open water, giving a different photo from the classic route but a rougher ride. It sits outside the standard route because it burns more fuel and more sailing time. Agree it when booking over WhatsApp.

Cagarras Islands: snorkelling

Clearer water and a snorkelling spot, about 40 minutes of sailing from Ipanema. Also arranged separately, since the crossing eats a good share of the five hours. Worth it when that is the main goal of the day. More in are the Cagarras Islands worth it?

Niterói and Itaipu: extended routes

Also arranged separately, and less requested than the routes above since they sit further from the departure point. They make sense for a group that already knows the classic route and wants to explore further.

A custom route

Within the booked time, the route can be adjusted to what the group wants to do that day, mixing pieces of the ones above. This is how most corporate events and parties work, prioritising time anchored at a quiet beach over continuous sailing.

How to choose

First time in Rio: the standard Guanabara Bay route. Focused on photos and romance: sunset. A group that already knows the city and wants clearer water: the Cagarras Islands. Full fleet rates are in how much a boat rental in Rio costs.
