Renting a jet ski in Rio is straightforward, but the departure point and the rules vary a lot between operators. This covers where the ride starts, how the day works and what to check before paying.
Where it departs from
The whole Jet Life fleet leaves from Marina da Glória, on Av. Infante Dom Henrique, Glória. It is easy to reach by metro, Glória station, with parking on site.
The marina sits inside Guanabara Bay, which matters more than it sounds. That is sheltered water, with less swell than the open coast, and it is why someone who has never ridden can be put on the water at all.

How the day works
- Arrive at the marina 15 minutes before your booked time.
- Quick briefing: how to accelerate, how to slow down, how to get back on if you fall off. Nobody goes on the water without this part.
- Life jacket, mandatory, provided on site.
- Guided departure. You ride, with support along the route.
Your booked time starts when you get on the water, not at the briefing.
What it costs
R$ 500 for 30 minutes, R$ 900 for one hour, R$ 1,700 for two hours and R$ 3,500 for the 5-hour day. Fuel included, nothing charged at the end. The breakdown and the comparison against a boat are in how much a jet ski costs in Rio.
Do you need a licence
No, because the ride is accompanied. Riding alone, unaccompanied, does require a Brazilian Navy licence. The difference between the two cases is in do you need a licence for a jet ski?
Who can ride
A jet ski takes two people: rider and passenger. A child can ride as passenger, with a correctly sized life jacket, as long as an adult is riding. Pregnancy is not cleared, because the impact against the water is constant even at low speed.
What to check with any operator before booking
- Is fuel in the price? Fuel billed at the end of the ride is the most common surprise in this business.
- Where does it leave from? Departures outside a licensed marina usually mean an unlicensed operation.
- Is there a briefing? An operator who puts you on the water without instruction is cutting costs in the wrong place.
Where the route goes
The ride stays inside Guanabara Bay, in the stretch in front of Marina da Glória and Flamengo Park. From there you see Sugarloaf Mountain from below and Christ the Redeemer in the distance, with Corcovado on the skyline.
Jet skis do not run to Copacabana or the Cagarras Islands. Those are boat routes, with a captain aboard, and they sit in the boat rental guide.

Best time of day
In the morning, up to around 11:00, the water inside the bay is usually flattest. That is the most comfortable slot for anyone who has never ridden.
Late afternoon gives better light for photos, but the wind picks up and the water gets choppy. Riders with some practice tend to prefer that slot for exactly that reason.
What to bring
Swimwear, water-resistant sunscreen and a dry change of clothes for afterwards. Phones only in a waterproof case, and even then at your own risk. Sunglasses without a strap go to the bottom of the bay on the first turn.
How to book
Confirm the date over WhatsApp, with a 50% deposit to hold the slot. The schedule runs 09:00 to 19:00, every day.
Sea conditions matter more on a jet ski than on a boat, because you are exposed and close to the water. Light rain does not cancel the ride. Rough seas or heavy rain reschedule the date at no cost.
If your group is bigger than two, it is worth comparing against boat rental before deciding. From three people up, the boat almost always wins.
