These are two different products that people tend to compare on hourly price, which leads to the wrong call. The question that settles it is not which costs less. It is how many people are going, and for how long.
Side by side
Boat
- 8 to 65 people, depending on the vessel
- Standard 5-hour trip
- From R$ 1,800 for the whole boat
- Comes with a licensed captain. You do not steer
- Lets you stop to swim, eat and drink aboard, with Bluetooth sound
Jet ski
- 2 people, always
- From 30 minutes to 5 hours
- R$ 500 for 30 min, R$ 900 for 1 hour, R$ 3,500 for the day
- You ride it, with an accompanied departure
- No stops, no luggage, no food aboard

The per-person maths
This is where the comparison usually flips. An hour on a jet ski for two people comes to R$ 450 each. Five hours on the 29 ft Speedboat with eight people come to R$ 225 each, for a trip five times longer.
So for two people, the jet ski is the cheapest way onto the water. From three or four up, the boat costs less per head and delivers far more time.
Pick the boat when
- The group is bigger than two
- You want to stop and swim
- The plan involves eating and drinking aboard
- There are children, older relatives or anyone who will not be riding
- It is a birthday, a bachelorette party or a company event
Pick the jet ski when
- There are two of you at most
- What you want is to ride, not to cruise
- There is little time left in the day
- The budget is in the hundreds, not the thousands

If you have never been on the water
On a boat there is nothing to learn. You board and the captain handles it, which makes it the option for a group spanning very different ages.
On a jet ski there is a briefing before you go in: how to accelerate, how to slow down and how to climb back on if you come off. A first-timer spends much of the first thirty minutes adjusting, which is why the full hour tends to deliver more than the half.
Seasickness and sea conditions
The boat is bigger and steadier, and the standard route stays inside the bay, where the water is sheltered. Anyone prone to seasickness does better on it, and better still in the morning, when the water is flattest.
A jet ski slaps against the water constantly, even at low speed. It is not a matter of nausea but of impact: five hours of riding tires the arms and lower back of anyone not used to it.
Where the two agree
Both depart from Marina da Glória, neither requires a licence, fuel is included in both, and a 50% deposit confirms the booking either way. Operations run 09:00 to 19:00 every day, and light rain cancels neither.
The difference in sensitivity is the sea. Rough water disrupts the jet ski more, because you are exposed and right down at water level.
You can do both
Yes, and it is common with larger groups: the boat for the day and a jet ski booked separately for whoever wants to ride. Since both leave from the same marina, they fit into the same day with no travel in between.
Full rates are in how much a boat rental costs and how much a jet ski costs.
