Renting a boat in Rio means booking the whole vessel for your group, with a licensed captain on board. It is not a shared tour. Nobody boards except the people you invited, and the route adapts to what your group wants to do that day.
This guide covers what usually decides the booking: what it actually costs, what is already included, where you can get to in five hours, and what has to be agreed in advance.
What a boat rental in Rio costs
The standard trip runs 5 hours and the price is per boat, not per person. These are the Jet Life fleet rates, smallest to largest:
- Up to 8 people: R$ 1,800 on the 29 ft Speedboat. This is the entry price.
- Up to 10 people: R$ 2,500 on the 30.5 ft Speedboat, about R$ 250 per person at full capacity.
- Up to 25 people: R$ 6,500 on the Ibiza 45.
- Up to 40 people: R$ 8,750 on the Barco Gourmet 53, roughly R$ 219 per person at full capacity.
- Up to 65 people: R$ 17,500 on the Oceano Catamaran.

What the price already covers
The advertised price is the final price of the trip. It includes:
- A licensed captain for the whole trip
- Fuel for the agreed route, with no charge added afterwards
- Life jackets and safety equipment
- Coolers with ice
Food and drink are on you and can be brought aboard. There is no minimum spend and no corkage fee.
Where the boat goes
Departure is always from Marina da Glória. From there, Urca and Guanabara Bay are already covered by the standard trip.
Guanabara Bay and Urca
This is what most people pick the first time. It passes Sugarloaf Mountain seen from below, Christ the Redeemer in the distance, the Rio-Niterói Bridge and Fiscal Island. The swim stop is usually at Praia Vermelha, where the water stays calm most of the year.
Copacabana and Ipanema
This one leaves the bay and follows the coastline in open water. Best photos of the day, but a rougher ride. Agree it in advance, since it is outside the standard route.
Cagarras Islands

How many people fit
Capacity is the vessel legal limit, not the comfortable load. A 25-seat boat with 25 adults and a cooler is full. For a group spending five hours seated, talking and eating, take 15% to 20% off the capacity and you land on the number that works.
Children count toward capacity, infants included. That is a Brazilian Navy rule, not a company policy.
Do you need a licence

Best time of year, and what happens if it rains
Operations run 09:00 to 19:00, every day of the year. Between October and March the water is warmer and the day is longer, which favours the swim stop. In winter the sea tends to be flatter, which suits anyone prone to seasickness.

How to book
- Pick the boat by group size and confirm the date over WhatsApp.
- A 50% deposit confirms the booking. The rest is due on the day.
